Abstract: The article investigates the problem of marital relationships in modern plays – Ukrainian and French, such as the Ninth Lunar Day by Olexandra Pohrebіns›ka and Mysterious Variations by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt. The fornication in each plot is displayed in the form of emotional adultery. Psychological factor of extramarital emotional connection is a person’s conscious rejection of love or a forced change in the format of relationships. Secret epistolary communication contributes to the non-chronological interpretation of facts and situations, and reconstructs the time-spatial organization of these dramas. The introduction of an unknown “text-in-a-text” helps to model not only another reality, but also becomes a powerful means of the psychologization of the plays’ plots.
